An amazing countrywide event uniting bike safety and royal birthday celebrations
This Sunday 16th August the Land of Smiles is celebrating Mother’s Day and the birthday of it’s beloved royal mother figure, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit (which fell earlier this week, on 12 August) with a unique event called Bike for Mom. Uniting the celebrations of mothers across the nation and one special mother in particular, with an emphasis on cycling safety in Thailand, Bike for Mom is a campaign which is unfolding across the nation today from 3pm onwards, chaired by none other than His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn.
Over 300, 000 people have signed up to take part, and many more are sure to join their ranks, as cyclists from across Thailand leap on their bicycles and take to the streets and roads of their beautiful nation to show their devotion to their Queen and to the important cause of bike safety.
In the Thai capital, cyclists can follow a 43km route beginning at Ratchadamnoen Avenue, heading out onto Si Ayutthaya Road and going on to the Victory Monument and beyond. In the provinces, the cycling will begin from each respective city hall, and the routes have been carefully mapped out by the local provincial authorities. Wherever you are in the country it is sure to be a rousing event and a wonderful way to be a part of something truly special and highly significant.
But there is more to this event than hopping on your bike. As part of Bike for Mom you can also take part in a photo contest to be in with a chance of collecting a gleaming Royal Trophy from the campaign’s royal chairman, Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn. Take your photos of the festivities today and be sure to submit them by 23 August 2015 to be in with a shot.
