One thing we all love to do when on holidays is to go shopping and buy things for ourselves our friends and our family. When shopping in Bangkok you will have your hands full and wallets empty as you shop till you drop. Enormous and beautiful shopping centres with loads of variety and products, you will find everything you are looking for. You won’t want to leave the air condition comfort of the shops and after all the shopping you can sit and relax with a drink or go see a movie.

Where to shop

The easiest way to get to the shopping centres around Bangkok is to get on the BTS (Bangkok Mass Transit System) Skytrain. Quick and convenient, it beats sitting in Bangkok traffic. Here are some places along the BTS line if you feel like doing some shopping.

With over 250 stores and a large 15 screen Cineplex, Siam Paragon is a must visit. No excuse not to visit as are opened daily until late.

Description: Seven storey’s of easily laid out shops. Central Chit Lom stocks a wide range of products including men’s fashion, women’s fashion, beauty, electronics and much more. First built in 1973 it is always undergoing renovations to keep modern and now has other branches throughout Thailand. However, the one here in Chit Lom is the first one and remains popular among visitors, expats and Thais.

Description: A 5 storey plaza that is not as well-known as some of the larger shopping centres such as the Siam Paragon it is still quite pleasant and tends to have a lot of sales. Categories such as fashion, furniture, jewellery, electronics and Thai handicrafts can all be found splayed out throughout the floors. The top floor of the Plaza is devoted to being creative. You can learn to play an instrument, attend make-up school, dance or even send the kids to art classes.

Description: A huge shopping complex that has over 500 stores and around 100 restaurants, Central World one of the largest in Thailand. Spend the day shopping on multiple levels as it has everything to offer from a range of fashion stores, electronics, beauty salons, eateries, furniture and a lot more. There is an ice-skating rink and cinema to occupy those people who are having a break from window shopping. The layout of the store complex allows shoppers to view multiple shops at a one glance while natural light filters through the skylights and open areas.

Description: Established in 1979 it is a perfect place for souvenir shopping or other shopping without breaking your budget. A mid-market retailer offering products such as clothing, accessories, cosmetics, homewares as well as much more. There are many branches all over Thailand.

After all the shopping, you will probably become hungry so make your way to the food court for a bite to eat or stop at the supermarket to take something back to your hotel.

Description: A relatively new mall that was opened back in early 2015 it was built to transform Phrom Phong into one of the biggest retail areas in the city. Shopping around you will find luxurious shops as you enter the ground floor and as you go higher you will expect a mix of more affordable street and homegrown brands mixed into the futuristic design.

Description: This Japanese lifestyle mall was built in July 2012. As you get off the skytrain and make your way towards Ekkamai, you will be greeted by a Maneki-neko (lucky cat) before heading inside to a beautifully designed mall that has replica cherry trees, lanterns, bamboo fountain and geishas that will make you feel like you have teleported to Japan. If you are feeling hungry make your way to floor M and the ground floor where you can find a range of food. The second floor offers a range of health and beauty products and herbal treatments. The third floor is made up of smaller boutiques, electronics and accessories. The Fourth floor also has electronics and accessories. All in all a great shopping experience with a more relaxed atmosphere.

Description: Found throughout Thailand Tesco lotus provide extensive fresh or prepared foods, electrical appliances, toys, stationary and household goods. You can also pay certain bills, personal loans etc. Not a usual shopping destination for foreigners it is still good to visit if you need some basic supplies at any hour while you are holiday. Some of the larger Tesco’s also have food courts. Tesco does provide good prices and usual discounts on items.
