The Philippines is home to some of the most impressive festivals, or fiestas in the world but it is the city of Cebu that can lay claim to hosting the largest and most attended fiesta in the country – Sinulog. It celebrates the feast of the Child Jesus, Santo Niño de Cebú, with a dance ritual that involves two steps forward and one step back to the beat of drums. This immersive celebration really is a feast for all the senses, and is undoubtedly one of the great festivals of the world. Though celebrations begin as early as December, the main procession occurs on the third Sunday of January.
