Charming Chiang Rai – Day 2 & 3 of our Magical Media Trip
iTravel Channel has just got back from what turned out to be a truly incredible media trip to the northern Thai province of Chiang Rai. So far we have shared some of the amazing attractions we have visited in our previous blog, such as Huay Mae Sai waterfall and a traditional hill tribe village – and in this blog we introduce you to even more amazing Chiang Rai hotspots.
Day 2: Tea Plantation
One of the highlights of the second day of our adventure was a visit to a tea plantation, situated in breath-taking surroundings among the lush emerald hills of Chiang Rai. We were lucky enough to get a guided tour courtesy of the plantation’s very kind and hospitable owner, and this included a fascinating visit to the factory where we were allowed to help pack the harvested tea into bags – it’s harder than it looks! – after which we were treated to a delicious tea tasting. iTravel would like to say a huge thank you to the tea plantation owner for letting us experience a taste of life on a plantation; and for letting us sample the refreshing end product!
Day 2: KMT Village in Doin Mae Salong
Next we headed to the charming KMT village of Doi Mae Salong, where we headed to one of the local stalls to indulged our addiction for almonds and got to know the super-friendly stall owner, who even treated us to an impromptu – but much appreciated – wine tasting; one of the wines we got to sample was lychee wine, which definitely beats your average glass of Chardonnay.
Day 2: Royal Villa in Doi Tung
More tasty delights were enjoyed by the intrepid iTravel crew at Doi Tung, where you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee before visiting the Royal Villa and mingling with the local tribes people. We found the Mae Fah Luang Garden a particularly stunning attraction, with its profusion of brightly coloured flowers and elegantly landscaped grounds.
Day 3: Learn how to be a Mahout at Anantara Golden Triangle Resort
The last two nights of our media trip were spent at the Anantara Golden Triangle resort, which boasts its very own elephant camp. On the third day of our media trip iTravel host Simon became an honorary mahout, learning how to command and control his very own elephant – he even got to give it a bath in the river, although maybe it would be more accurate to say that the elephant gave Simon a bath.
Day 3: Experience Rice Planting at Anantara Golden Triangle Resort
During our stay at the resort we also got to experience rice planting first-hand – again, tougher than it looks! – and were lucky enough to interview both the manager of the elephant camp and the resort’s General Manager. As you can see, the Anantara Golden Triangle resort is truly stunning – the mountainous location in northern Thailand’s Golden Triangle region is out of this world, and we enjoyed waking up Friday morning to a mesmerising spectacle of mist-shrouded jungle and verdant green hills melting into the whiteness. In fact, it’s not a stretch to say that the beauty of the hotel’s surroundings make it difficult to leave and return to everyday life back home.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the resort, and as we say in the video below, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Anantara, as well as to the Tourism Authority of Thailand – and of course we would also like to thank our incredible tour guide, who, throughout the course of our exhilarating 4-day Chiang Rai media trip, helped us experience the authentic Thainess of this breath-taking province of the Land of Smiles.
