Thailand is once again celebrating Loy Krathong, one of its most vibrant and stunning festivals. With a history dating back hundreds of years, and a magical tradition of crafting little boats out of banana leaves to set afloat on the river, representing wishes for good fortune, Loy Krathong is a spectacle not to be missed – and its not surprising that many tourists flock to Thailand at this time of year especially to experience this festival.
As well as the making and floating of krathongs – those beautifully decorated banana leaf boats – there are so many other exciting events taking place during Loy Krathong, from beauty contests to performances of traditional music and dance, and dramatic firework displays. iTravel spent a truly dazzling Loy Krathong at Nakarapirom Park and the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok, who kindly allowed us to interview their guests during the festivities.
