Part 1: iTravel Exclusives Special
In this first part of our exclusive interview with the founder of Bikram Yoga, Mr Bikram Choudhury, Bikram explains the history of this highly popular form of yoga — a history which traces back more than 5,000 years to India, where yoga was first taught by gurus on a one-to-one basis. In those days the knowledge and healing benefits of yoga were passed on slowly, from one person to the next. But fast forward more than 5 millenia, and the teaching tradition of yoga has been changed dramatically – thanks to the rise of Bikram Choudhury.
This quiet revolutionary has pioneered a holistic form of yoga which can be taught to many people at a time, and which will target all of their individual health problems in one session. Since he began Bikram yoga over 40 years ago his schools have mushroomed all over the globe, as people from all cultures and nationalities sign up in droves to embrace the positive effects of this holistic healing tradition.
Though he has taught in many Asian countries, Bikram has a special affection for the Thai people, as he explains in our interview – and that is one major reason why he chose Thailand, and in particular Khao Lak, for his pioneering teacher training studio. In this little slice of paradise, students from around the world can embrace Bikram yoga and learn how to spread its healing powers in their own countries.
Be sure not to miss the second part of our exclusive interview with Bikram, as he unveils his custom-designed hot yoga studio – another unforgettable iTravel Exclusives!
