Explore Hat Yai with THAI Smile Airways
Welcome to Hat Yai, home to unusual attractions, buzzing nightlife and some of Thailand’s tastiest dishes! During the second half of this week iTravel is excited to be flying down south to explore the vibrant city of Hat Yai in Songkhla Province, Thailand’s 4th largest city and a much-loved destination for Malaysian and Singaporean holidaymakers.
Hat Yai Municipal Park and Cable Car
After arriving bright and early at Hat Yai International Airport (HDY) and checking in at our hotel we’ll have a morning shoot in Hat Yai Municipal Park, the city’s fabulous recreation area, where we will have a chance to interview the Mayor of the city and check out the Hat Yai Cable Car, the park’s newest addition. Hat Yai Municipal Park is a highly enjoyable place to explore, with its fragrant flowers, food stalls and beautiful statues and monuments.
After a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, hosted by TAT Hat Yai, our explorations will continue with a trip to Songkhla Zoo, nestled among tree-clad hills near Songkhla Lake. Spanning 878 rai and home to a diverse multitude of animal and bird species – including gibbons, tigers, bears, barking deer and Malayan tapir – this attraction is sure to be highly popular with families and nature enthusiasts. There is even a beautiful viewpoint and restaurant from which you can survey the picturesque landscape of the province – the perfect place to end our first day in Songkhla.
Hat Yai Magic Eyes 3D Museum
On our second day in Hat Yai we will be spending the morning at the Hat Yai Magic Eyes 3D Museum, an eye-popping new attraction which is guaranteed to wow with its collection of over 100 3D murals and paintings, including a gigantic hour glass, dramatic nature scenes and even a magic carpet. You’ll be spoilt for choice for photo opportunities in this amazing building!
Hat Yai Ice Dome
After lunch we head to another novel attraction, the Hat Yai Ice Dome – Thailand’s chilliest must-see! After donning winter clothing we’ll get to explore this expansive building, home to an assortment of skilfully carven ice sculptures and carvings of everything from castles to dinosaurs.
Klong Hae Floating Market
Having savoured this delightfully frosty experience we’ll head on to Khlong Hae Floating Market, 4km outside the city. This stunning floating market is sure to impress and is the perfect place to sample a slew of taste bud-intoxicating southern dishes. It’s also ideal for purchasing souvenirs or little gifts for friends and family back home as eatables aren’t the only items sold here.
Samila Beach and Songkhla Old Town
On our final day in Hat Yai we’ll be making our way to Samila Beach, famous for its pristine sand, its beautiful views and its iconic Golden Mermaid Statue which commemorates a tragic but romantic local folk tale. We’ll also get to shoot in Songkhla Old Town, with its stately Sino-Portuguese architecture, shrine and tempting eateries, and this is where we will wrap up our thoroughly enjoyable tour of the must-see attractions of Hat Yai and Songkhla Province, jewels of Thailand’s far south!
