Koh Phangan Shows Off the Island’s Unique Attractions with their Colourmoon Festival
The island residents of Koh Phangan in conjunction with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) recently staged their annual Colourmoon Festival. The festival has been held for the past 3 years and serves as a showcase for all of the island’s attractions.
There were performances by local and nationally-famous musicians, dance performances, handicrafts, art exhibits and, of course some of the food delicacies that are unique to the region.
The Festival was presided over by H.E. Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, the Minister of Tourism and Sports. She pointed out that there was so much to experience on the island that the TAT wanted to help the islanders benefit from an increase in tourism.
More than Just the Full-moon Party
Koh Phangan is known throughout the world as the site of the famous full-moon party. This major event attracts young revelers from all over the world who journey to the island to celebrate in a multi-day, non-stop rave.
But, the natural beauty and other offerings of the island needed to be publicized as well. This is the reason that the Colourmoon Festival was begun. The island is host to a number of upscale spas and resorts that feature health and wellness amid the breathtaking beauty of the island.
The 5 Zones of Koh Phangan
The island is divided up into 5 zones with each zone having their own unique attributes, traditions and attractions. This year the theme of the festival was “Coconut is Life” and the different zones contributed handicrafts, art, lotions and food that utilized the coconut in their own creative way.
The zones have been established to show the diversity of traditions and attractions that Koh Phangan has to offer. Each zone is unique in its own way and the festival offered a taste of that diversity to attending tourists and islanders.
