Largest countdown in the nations history
We visit the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT) main office to interview the TAT Governor, Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, about the countdown and Thai Tourism in 2016.
First and foremost, Thailand is preparing for New Year’s Countdown 2016, touted to be the largest countdown in the nations history. The event is being organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and will begin on December 29, 2015, and won’t finish until the new year arrives on January 1, 2016.
This lively event will take place along the banks of the Chao Phraya River featuring the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun).
As the clock strikes midnight, Wat Arun’s unique spires will come to light with a 9 minute pyrotechnic display. This incredible display will sport over 5,500 fireworks including 2,016 to highlight the entrance into the ASEAN Economic Community and 2,559 to ring in the Buddhist Year as well as 999 fireworks to pay homage to His Majesty the King of Thailand (King Rama IX).
Following the fireworks there will be additional displays including 45 minute displays on the ‘Chronicle of Land’ which will include music by by Mahanakhorn Philharmonic Orchestra and Usa Asil, the first multi-cultural ASEAN music ensemble.
