Mario Maurer and the TAT Work to Boost Thailand’s Image to Young, Regional Tourists
Mario Maurer, who is enjoying a skyrocketing career due to such films as “Love of Siam”, “First Love”, and Thailand’s highest-grossing film, “Pee Mak”, has been part of a campaign organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand that was first launched in 2015.
The campaign, officially called “Experience Thailand with Mario Maurer”, is specifically aimed at younger, affluent Asians from countries around the ASEAN region who have not yet experienced Thailand as a holiday destination.
On February 18, 2017, the TAT organized a river cruise, which featured Mario Maurer along with his regional fans representing the countries of Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam. They also invited the media along for the sunset cruise along the Chao Phraya River through the heart of Bangkok.
Mario Maurer – A Worthy Ambassador for Thailand’s Tourism
Although it was billed as a laid-back cruise down the Chao Phraya River, Mario took his tourism ambassador’s role seriously as he addressed the media and his fans about the importance of tourism to the Thai economy.
Mrs. Walailak Noypayak, TAT’s Executive Director for the ASEAN, South Asia and South Pacific Region said “The next generation of potential travellers is going to be young people, especially within Asia. We are happy that Mr. Mario Maurer is working with us in promoting tourism to Thailand amongst these new emerging markets.”
But, it wasn’t all serious business for Mario. He still had plenty of time to take in the sights along the river and pose for the multitude of pictures that the event generated. It was also an opportunity to spend some quality time away from the pressures of his film and modeling career and be able to relax with his fans.
A Sunset Cruise and Dinner to Create Awareness
The cruise took all aboard to the Chatrium Riverside Pier where they all sat down to enjoy a dinner and take in the sights along the waterfront. Once dinner was done, it was time for more pictures. The representatives of TAT joined Mario and his fans to pose happily for the media.
The event was meant to create awareness in Thai citizens that the TAT is hard at work building Thailand’s reputation as a holiday destination around the ASEAN region.
Thailand is seeing a steady increase in tourists from the ASEAN region and this campaign is aimed at expanding this growth. With Mario’s help, Thailand will enjoy an even greater influx of tourists from our neighboring countries in the years to come.
