Celebrating the Queen’s Birthday
Every year on the 12th of August, Thai households and public places will be decorated with lights, decorations, and portraits of the beloved Queen Sirikit, in celebration of the day of her birth and Mother’s day.
In Thailand, the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit is observed as National Mother’s Day, just as the King’s Birthday is observed as National Father’s Day.
The Queen’s birthday is observed in Bangkok and broadcast throughout Thailand.
Around the country, Thai people pause to pay respect to their mothers by presenting them with flowers.
Markets will be very busy in the morning seeking merit for their mothers through feeding monks.
