Recent Tourism Development Campaign.
We had the huge honour to be welcomed by Mr. Somsak Pureesrisak, Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, during our latest visit to Koh Phangan. We took the opportunity to ask for his insight in regards to Koh Phangan’s recent tourism development campaign. Khun Somsak informed us that the Ministry of Tourism and Sports has engineered a plan to re-image Koh Phangan as an attractive destination to athletes from around the world with a focus on football and futsal, actively encouraging sports-enthusiasts and professionals to escape for the winter to the island’s all-year-round warmth.
He also surprised us with the fact that the world-renowned full moon party on Koh Phangan has been going on for 33 years now. This is also a main focus of the campaign – to let the world know that the island is not just a party hotspot, but also a well preserved natural wonderland with an unbeatable level of fun. The campaign will focus on promoting Koh Phangan’ famous parties as a having a positive vibe with an emphasis on sports and active recreation, as well as an outstanding array of activities that connect tourists with the local community and environment, offering ecologically minded and socially responsible tourism throughout – what more could you wish for on a feel-good island adventure?
