Ngapali Beach Offers Quiet Beauty
Myanmar has recently opened its doors to tourism and the country as a whole is still developing their tourism infrastructure. This can be a good thing for those tourists seeking peace and quiet in a get-away, beach-side destination.
Tasteful Modern Resorts
The beach is still quiet, with numerous, tasteful modern resorts and excellent, open-air seafood restaurants dotted up and down the beach.
Accommodation prices go from less than $60 US per night to more than $600. The resorts are all smaller one and two-story developments that maintain the quiet, laid-back ambience of the area.
The seafood is incredibly fresh, being supplied by local fishermen. There are numerous open-air restaurants all along the beach that are happy to prepare your favorite seafood dishes while you gaze out at the azure waters of the Bay of Bengal enjoying a cold drink.
Activities around Ngapali Beach
Although it’s quiet, there are still plenty of things to do. Swimming, snorkeling and scuba-diving are very popular as the water off Ngapali beach offers crystal-clear visibility and plenty of colorful marine life to observe and enjoy.
On land, you can spend a leisurely day touring the local, traditional fishing villages by renting a bicycle or motorbike and discover how the coastal residents live. You can even take a ride in a hot-air balloon to see the entire area from the air.
When to Go to Ngapali Beach
The peak season in Myanmar is from November to March. This is the best time to visit Ngapali Beach, especially if you’re an ocean-lover as this is also when the water is at its calmest and clearest.
From May to October, Myanmar experiences a rainy season. Because of a drop in occupancy, some of the resorts along the beach will close down or offer a limited number of rooms. So, it’s best to book ahead if you plan to visit during these months. The water is also rougher during the rainy season and this affects the visibility for snorkelers and scuba-divers as well.
Nearby Thandwe Airport services the tourism industry at Ngapali Beach. Many of the mid-range and luxury hotels offer complimentary ground transport to and from the airport. If you’re staying at a place that doesn’t offer this service, a taxi ride from the airport will generally cost you less than 5$ US.
