Six couples embark on the Ultimate Honeymoon trip to Thailand
For many people, the chance to win a dream honeymoon in Thailand soaking up the sun and beaches, as well as the culture and culinary delights, is the ultimate dream. But for six lucky couples from Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, this dream just came true.
The inaugural ‘Romantic Thailand’ Contest gave six couples the chance to visit Thailand and experience a fabulous Thai wedding ceremony and honeymoon between 28 July – 9 August, 2015.
Hailing from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Ukraine, the pairs were treated to a traditional blessing ceremony to start their trip around Thailand – and iTravel was there to see the action.
The ‘Romantic Thailand’ contest was launched in May 2015. A total of 122 couples across the six nations submitted videos and photos to www.romanticthailand.tv showing their unique love stories in a bid to win the free honeymoon trip of a lifetime. From stories of meeting on the train, to university love, to love at first sight – all the love stories were memorable.
The chosen couples were notified via phone call, and many of them said they were so shocked and excited they didn’t know what to say! To make it more interesting, many of the couples had never been to Thailand before – making it all the more thrilling for them. After arriving in Thailand’s capital they experienced the magnificence of the Grand Palace. To kick off their ‘love holiday’ all 12 winners were brought to central Bangkok for a blessing ceremony. They were whisked away to be completely transformed into traditional Thai brides and grooms complete with clothing, jewelry and makeup. They then entered the room with a beautiful Thai dancing and music procession.
Mrs. Juthaporn Rerngronasa, TAT Acting Governor then officially welcomed them and invited a monk on stage to perform wedding rites for the visitors – who all glowed with happiness. Finally, each couple kneeled in front of select Tourism Authority of Thailand Directors so that they could tie white string around their wrists in a symbolic blessing for their union.
The six couples then embarked on a trip through Bangkok, Phuket, and Krabi. But making this experience different is that during their stay, they were followed by cameras for an online reality show. Every day they had fun tasks to complete and the public can vote on which couple is their favorite. The eventual winners of the whole competition on social media with then get the ultimate grand prize courtesy of the TAT – which will be another stunning holiday in Thailand.
The pinnacle of the trip was that on 8 August, 2015, the couples enjoyed their official ‘Amazing Thai Wedding’ followed by dinner at an exclusive Thai restaurant.
