Festivities and Celebrations
Koh Samui’s rich history was on full display during the festival. In addition to the headlining marathon and bike race, a colorful array of special events and activities were curated for guests to enjoy – from a Thai traditional merit-making ceremony to an “Art Lane” and cultural fair – there was something for everyone wishing to be mesmerized by the beauty of Samui.
Music lovers indulged in the sonic temptations of concerts lead by renowned Thai singers and bands, and Muay-Thai fans were dazzled by the “Samui Fight” kickboxing matches. Samui Festival 2017 truly was a celebration of the Thai and Southern Region culture.
Below is a complete list of the major events featured at three of Koh Samui’s best beaches: Nathon, Bophut and Chaweng.
-Opening procession: “Flower Float” parade almost two kilometres long on 7 September.
-Marathon (42 kilometres, 10.5 kilometres, and 5 kilometres) on 9 September.
-Bike race (25 and 50 kilometres) on 10 September.
-“Art Lane” showcasing work of famous Thai artists and local handicrafts.
-“Food Street” with seafood and signature Thai dishes of Surat Thani (Southern Region).
-A 2.5-kilometre-long beach buffet (free and open to the public).
-“Samui Fight” nights.
