Songkran Splendours: Amazing Songkran Announced
Representatives and the media all gathered at the Emquartier shopping mall in Bangkok as the Tourism Authority of Thailand unveiled their plans for the Songran 2017 celebrations.
After opening remarks and a show about Songkran, a special panel discussion was held to talk about this year’s theme of Songkran Splendours: Amazing Songkran and the celebrations it promised to deliver all across the country.
The panel consisted of: Miss Pranee Sattayaprakob, Deputy Permanent Secretary of BMA, Mr. Noppadon Pakprot, the Deputy Governor for Tourism, Products and Business and Colonel Sitthiparp Baiprasert, Deputy Chief of Metropolitan Police Area 5.
Songkran Festival Celebrations all across Thailand
This year’s celebrations will focus on regional festivals that highlight, promote and celebrate the diversity in Thai culture that exists in different regions of the country.
The festivals will feature the different aspects of the region that makes each area unique, yet a vital part of Thai culture as a whole. They also will focus on enhancing the image of Thailand as a Quality Leisure Destination by offering “Unique Thai Local Experiences” to show visitors the many different experiences that they can expect to see in visiting Thailand.
Starting off the Songkran Celebrations in Bangkok
This year’s celebrations will be kicked-off on April 8th with an elaborate procession that will head down Sukhumvit Road, starting from the Phrom Phong Junction and finishing at the Pathum Wan Intersection. The procession will take place from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
The procession will coincide with a festival that will be held in Bangkok’s Benjasiri Park from April 8th to the 13th. The festival will showcase what the other regions in Thailand have planned for Songkran celebrations, giving a taste of what visitors might expect if they travel to these other areas of the country to experience Songkran.
