December 15th-18th, 2016 at Ao Po Grand Marina Phuket
The biggest names in the world of yachting returned to the Kingdom of Thailand for the second edition of the hugely successful Thailand Yacht Show which was held at Phuket’s Ao Po Marina from 15th – 18th December.
The show’s principal organizer and Managing Director, Mr. Andy Treadwell explained that the aim of the show was to bring together some of the world’s finest super yachts, luxury yachts, boats and complementary lifestyle brands in a bid to make Thailand the yachting and boating capital of Asia, and the preferred winter destination for the global super yacht fleet.
The event was heavily supported and promoted by the Thai government who recognize the value that such an event can have for the Thai economy and tourism sector. In recognition of the importance attached to it a number of very highly placed Thai government officials, including the Deputy Prime Minster and the Minister for Tourism and Sport attended the opening ceremony in a clear demonstration of their personal support for the initiative.
Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. General Thanasak Patimaprakorn expressed his belief that the Thailand Yacht Show will help boost Thailand’s tourism industry, which in turn will have positive knock on effects for job creation and local infrastructure.
His views were echoed by Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, the Minister of Tourism & Sports who expressed similar optimism about the value of holding such a prestigious event here in Thailand.
It is thought that around five and a half thousand people passed through the Thailand Yacht Show and of those, around 40% were thought to be visitors from overseas, which clearly demonstrates the Show’s already significant international pull.
The visitors were able to view over 40 boats and wander around a vast exhibition space where some of the world’s most renowned yachting and lifestyle brands were displaying their latest products and innovations.
The Thailand Yacht Show has successfully built on the strong foundations laid by the first show to prove once again that Thailand is a global leader in quality leisure tourism, a point that Mr. Yutthasak Supasorn, the TAT Deputy Governor was keen to point out when we spoke to him.
