Top of the Gulf Regatta at Ocean Marina Yacht Club in Pattaya

First up, lets head to Pattaya where the annual Top of the Gulf Regatta will take place at Ocean Marina Yacht Club, Jomtien Beach. The international boat race is Asia’s largest multi-class regatta and the highlight on the Gulf of Thailand’s marine calendar. Now in its 12th year, the regatta is expected to attract over 500 sailors in more than 250 crafts from all around the region and world. The event will begin on April 30th and last until May 4th.

Yasothon Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival

To herald the start of the rice-planting season, many areas of Northeastern Thailand, also known as Issan, hold a special and unique festival based on traditional folk beliefs to encourage good rains in the season to come. By firing special rockets, known as Bang Fai into the sky, they believe that the God of Rain will hear their prayers and bless them with good rice harvests in the year to come. Though such festivities take place throughout the northeast, it is the Yasothon Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival that has developed into the biggest and most well known in Thailand. This year the festival will take place from May 6 – May 10 in Yasothon.

Pahiyas Festival in Lucban, Philippines

All over the world, Filipinos are known for their love of festivals. One of the country’s most popular and colorful festivals is the Pahiyas Festival, which is held every year in Lucban, on the island of Quezon. The festival showcases the bountiful harvest from local towns and honours San Isidro Labrador, the Patron Saint of Farmers. Local houses are intricately decorated with leaf-shaped, multi-colored rice paste wafers, along with fruits and flowers and visitors are treated to a unique blend of art, culture and delicious culinary treats. The event is held on 15th of May in the city of Lucban, Quezon.

Sadly that’s all we have time as always we’d love to hear what you have planned for the coming weeks, so do get in touch if you have anything to share or if you have any upcoming events or festivals that you would like us to cover.
