Top Thai Destinations to visit in May 2015

Over these three months – May, June and July – we will be visiting a grand total of six beautiful Thai destinations so you can find out all about their amazing attractions, hotels, restaurants and nightlife. As part of the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s 2015 Discover Thainess campaign we are keen to showcase places you may not be so familiar with but which are just as deserving of your attention as globally renowned hotspots like Bangkok and Phuket.

With that object in mind, this May we have already spent a thoroughly enjoyable time exploring Khon Kaen and Hat Yai – if you haven’t already checked out our videos why not have a look at what we discovered in these two intriguing locations.

Top Thai Destinations to visit in June 2015

While next on the itinerary for June are Chiang Mai and Dansai in Loei province. In case you weren’t already familiar, Chiang Mai is a beautiful and atmospheric city located in the lush emerald foothills of Northern Thailand. The former capital of an ancient Lanna kingdom, these days the city is a seamless blend of cosmopolitan style and tradition, home to many stunning temples as well as trendy nightclubs, bars and restaurants.

Meanwhile Dansai is a small country town near the Laos border which is famous around Thailand for its annual Phi Ta Khon Festival, a colourful cultural event held on the first weekend after the sixth full moon. During the festival people wear vibrant costumes and dramatic ghost masks and there is a grand parade through the town; bamboo rockets are also fired into the air during the festival and on the third and final day crowds gather at the temple to hear sermons about the lives of Buddha. This year iTravel will be heading to Dansai to document this spectacular local event which is becoming increasingly popular with foreign tourists and provides the perfect opportunity to sample a unique taste of regional Thainess.

Top Thai Destinations to visit in July 2015

Last but not least, the month of July sees us jetting off to explore 2 more enticing Northern locales, namely Ubon Ratcathani and Udon Thani. Ubon Ratchathani is both a province and a city in the north-east of the country and is home to exquisite temples and colourful local festivals such as the October boat procession (celebrating the end of the rainy season) and July’s candle festival, which marks the rainy season’s kick-off. iTravel will be there to experience this beautiful event, which marks the beginning of the Buddhist Lent and includes a dazzling procession of exquisitely decorated floats as well as an array of other activities.

Finally, Udon Thani is the capital of its namesake province and is also to be found in the Isaan region of the country. There are a number of fascinating places to visit in Udon, ranging from picturesque parks to the Ban Chiang archaeological dig, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city itself has a thriving nightlife and a plethora of restaurants to choose from – iTravel can’t wait to go and find out more about this vibrant Northern gem.
