Focusing on offering value for money
Following on from the annual TAT Action Plan Meeting, which took place this year in Khon Kaen from 4-7 July, TAT invited a host of media and delegates to attend its eagerly anticipated 2017 Action Plan Press Conference.
The event took place in Plenary Hall 2 of the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre between 5pm and 7pm and was attended by a host of illustrious delegates and guests. These included the Chairman of the TAT’s Board of Directors, the TAT Governor Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, and the Minister of Tourism and Sports, H.E. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul.
The press conference began with a welcome and introduction from the MC and continued with a welcoming speech from the Minister of Tourism and Sports. It was then time for the TAT Governor to present the new action plan, formulated at the earlier meeting this month.
The aim of this new strategy is to designate Thailand as a Quality Leisure Destination and to steer the national tourism industry in an experience-based direction rather than focusing on offering value for money. TAT will achieve this by providing ‘Unique Thai Local Experiences, such as festivals, heritage events, international conferences and trade shows, giving tourists plenty of opportunity to absorb the very best of the Land of Smiles.
It is hoped that by developing marketing communications to help promote this new experience-based brand of tourism, revenue earnings from both domestic and international visitors will increase in 2017.
It is no secret that tourism is a major industry in Thailand and is one of the main powerhouses driving the country’s economy, hence the need for TAT to constantly reinvent and re-strategise in order to ensure the industry stays on track. With tourism also being acknowledged as one of 7 pillars supporting the nation’s burgeoning digital economy, it is crucial that TAT keeps coming up with these inventive new plans.
The Action Plan for 2017’s greatest strength is undeniably its emphasis on providing unforgettable experiences for visitors, which should be easy to achieve as Thailand is a land blessed with a rich culture, fascinating traditions and a host of outstanding destinations and activities for tourists to enjoy.
