Tuk-Tuk Thailand won Best National Costume at Miss Universe 2015

Arrival of Miss Universe Thailand 2015 at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport

The great Miss Universe mix-up by host Steve Harvey brought the competition into the news and tabloid headlines. However, there was no mix up when it came to who had the best costume – That accolade goes to the one and only Miss Universe Thailand.
Miss Universe Thailand, Aniporn Chalermburanawong, or Nat, is a 21 year old beauty-queen from Lampang and advanced to the final 10 in the competition.

The award winning dress was sponsored in part by Tourism Authority of Thailand. Designed by Mr. Hirankrit Pattaraboriboonkul, the dress took the symbolic Tuk Tuk and was created through the use of engineering, technology, and fashion craftsmanship. What a task and the talent involved – we even heard they had to do some 3D imaging to get the costume just right.

The winning Tuk Tuk Costume reinforces the symbolic local vehicle which plays a role in Thailand’s tourism image and popularity.  On behalf of the TAT, we caught up with Mr. Sugree Sithivanich, Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications.

Wow, that costume is really something and Miss Universe 2015 will be one to go down in the history books.
