Location of Wat Tham Suwan Khuha

A mere 10km drive from the vibrant bustle of Phang Nga Town you will find an astonishingly beautiful site, tucked away within the living rock of a massive cave. Wat Tham Suwan Khuha – Wat Tham for short – consists of an echoing cavern with lofty ceilings; it measures 40m in length and is 20m wide.

Things to see at Wat Tham Suwan Khuha

This natural temple is home to a number of exquisite religious images and items, including a gleaming golden reclining Buddha which measures 15m in length, and several other standing Buddhas. There is also a cosy grotto, which houses a beautiful golden stupa, and at the entrance to the cave itself you will be greeted by a magnificent Chedi which has been likened to Bangkok’s Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of Dawn.

During your visit to Wat Tham you can also explore some of the smaller caverns that lead off it – but beware, while you are checking out the subtle but powerful beauty of this underground temple, the cheeky monkeys that live outside the cave might be equally interested in your car. They have been known to steal car antennas and windscreen wipers, so be sure not to park too close to the cavern’s entrance!
